Untreated Yeast Infection - Should I Worry?

By Marsha Haworth

Yeast infection can be found in both men and women.

Some people think untreated yeast infection means a serious illness. Although it can develop into one, with proper treatment it does not need to become a serious health issue.

More than 50 percent of women with yeast infection let the infection go untreated. There are three main reasons why this happens; they are cost, shyness, and ignorance.

Many don't have the money or financing for a doctor's appointment. Therefore cost is a big issue.

Another reason for not treating yeast infection is shyness. Yeast infection is normally located in the genital area. This may cause the person to become too shy and embarrassed to talk to their doctor as well as be examined.

Ignorance of the illness is possibly the worst reason. On the other hand if you don't know its there, you wont think to check for any problems. Ignorance can also cause the infection to worsen in severity.

It is possible to have the illness become a major health problem, but this is rare. If you are one of those rare people, you could get health problems such as Sepsis. Sepsis is a deadly condition of the blood stream that results from the spread of bacteria. Or you could also get Vulvovaginal Candidas, a condition in which you have three or more yeast infections in a period of one year.

Having diabetes increases the chances of having an untreated yeast infection. With diabetes you may think that the yeast infection symptoms are just part of the disease, but this is not true. Make sure to watch and see if the infection is occasional, easily treatable, or reoccurring. This will tell you if the symptoms you are experiencing is a yeast infection and needs to be treated.

Yeast cells can not live in a pH environment and therefore your body generally takes care of the infection. Blood in your body raises the pH level therefore killing the yeast cells. - 20896
